Olwethu Kungisa

Olwethusana “Ndi Ngumntu” Kungisa is a wholistic creative Born and raised in NewBrighton, Port Elizabeth. She has a spiritual connection to clay and has just began her lifelong journey with Sculpting and Ceramics.

Having submitted to her calling to the soil, she gained a Craft and Enterprise learnership majoring in ceramics and jewellery design at PE College for a period of 12 months. Thereafter she became an apprentice under Meshack Masuku, a former Rhodes and NMU Art lecturer, from whom she gained practical and business experience.

Ndi Ngumntu continues to create beautiful jewellery, ceramics and sculptures. She has exhibited her work at Alliance Française, NMU, The Nelson Mandela Art Museum, Rhodes University and the Artec gallery.

“Masks help the elders to pass on cultural beliefs to the young, through masks a culture can express its view of the world, its cosmology or religion.”
