Muzi Ndlela

Born in 1979 in Mpophomeni Township, South Africa, Muzi Ndlela’s artistic journey reflects perseverance and self-discovery. Early mentorship by Mduduzi Xakaza at the Tatham Art Gallery in 1998 sparked his passion, which he further developed as a self-taught artist before earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2018.

Ndlela’s work deeply explores the symbolic bond between nature and humanity, frequently using animals as metaphors for human resilience and adaptability. The goat is a recurring symbol in his art, representing strength and perseverance amidst life’s challenges. The umbrella motif embodies protection and inner strength in the face of adversity. 

Employing charcoal, pastel, and mixed media, Ndlela balances strength and fragility, chaos and calm, crafting compositions that reflect life’s complex realities. His art invites introspection, encouraging viewers to find solace in the beauty and complexity of existence. Through these layered narratives, Ndlela offers a contemplative space to connect with the universal human experience.
