Lesego Brian Moncho is a self-taught South African artist from the rural village of Taung in the North West Province. Deeply inspired by the traditional dances, masks, crafts, and drumming of his childhood, Moncho transforms memory into vibrant abstract oil paintings rich with cultural resonance and emotional depth. Moncho’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the FNB Joburg Art Fair, National Arts Festival in Makhanda, and the Soul of Africa SADEC exhibition. 

In 2021, his work was acquired by Art Bank South Africa, affirming his growing presence in the national art landscape.

Lesego Brian Moncho’s work blends Cubist abstraction with personal and cultural memory. Inspired by the traditional murals of his childhood village, his earthy palette—featuring natural pigments like red oxide and green from cow dungreflects his rural roots. Flatness in his work symbolizes past emotional struggles, while his use of impasto brings texture, depth, and upliftment. Moncho sees each canvas as an event, not a picture—an expressive space where figures and symbols emerge from memory and emotion. His art transforms personal hardship into vibrant reflections of healing, identity, and heritage.
